Managing Scrupulosity

Scrupulosity is one of the most painful and misunderstood struggles in the spiritual life. Many people who experience it believe they are failing God, committing constant sins, or not doing enough to please Him. In reality, scrupulosity is not simply a spiritual problem but a recognized psychological disorder, closely related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), that uses the language of faith to create fear, anxiety, and doubt.

Lecturer: Thomas Santa C.Ss.R.

About This Course

In this course, we will learn how to understand scrupulosity correctly and respond to it with wisdom, faith, and practical guidance. Drawing from the experience of pastoral counselors and the insights of modern psychology, the course will help participants recognize the patterns of scrupulous thinking, understand why it happens, and discover healthier ways to respond. You will also learn how faith, spiritual direction, and appropriate treatment can work together to bring greater peace of mind and freedom.

The goal of this course is simple but important: to help those who struggle with scrupulosity move from fear to trust, from constant anxiety to peace, and from confusion to a healthier relationship with God.
